Fill half your plate with fruits and veggies. Add an array of colors to your plate and think of it as eating the rainbow. Dark, leafy greens, oranges, and tomatoes—even fresh herbs—are loaded with vitamins, fiber, and minerals.
Experiment with different grains. Try substituting whole grains for refined grains in recipes.
Choose lean protein foods. Vary your choices to include seafood, beans, peas and lentils, as well as eggs, lean cuts of meat, and poultry that are prepared in a healthful way, such as baked or grilled instead of fried.
Complete your meal with dairy. Include low-fat or fat-free options like milk, yogurt, cheese, calcium-fortified soymilk, or lactose-free milk
Reading the Nutrition Facts panel can help you choose foods and drinks to meet your nutrient needs. Be sure to check both the number of servings in the package and the serving size. Use percent Daily Values (DV) to help you evaluate how a particular food or beverage fits into your daily eating plan.
